It's raining!

We have had rain and high rivers before but this is something else!

The noise of the water is very loud as it roars past the house. This is just a little video taken out of the bedroom window so not sure if I will be able to blog it or not. I don't think there is going to be much of our lane left when the water recedes. We have very high winds and 20cm(8inches) of rain forecast for next 24 hours!

We are luckily above water though may be marooned for a while. People are in town are flooded and the Main Street is closed as both rivers have burst their banks and breached all the flood defences.

Update at 7pm! The area of green on the shot above and the whole of the garden area behind the wall are completely submerged now! We are keeping our fingers crossed and making contingency plans! Only (!)another 12 hours of heavy rains and gales before there will be a dry period to assess any damage. We are promised more rain on Saturday.

Stay safe Rosalind and I hope the water goes down soon.

Hope you managed to keep the water out of the house and stay safe - my sister lives half way up Wansfell at the top of Ambleside in Fishergate Park and the stream through their garden was lapping at their door last night and all the drain water backing up to nearly overflow their toilets - mother nature in full force is a very scary thing

Dramatic and scary stuff! Best wishes for a speedy and safe end to the flood waters.

I'm so glad you are OK Ros. The video shows how close you were to disaster.

The Cocker is a very short fast river which swells quickly but usually empties quickly too so by Sunday it should be clear up time.

Anne I was at college in Ambleside so know how drippy (?) it can get!
