Sewing ,postie and rosettes.

 

The autumn temperatures are creeping in, so time to do a little garment sewing.
 This is a favourite jacket pattern that goes together so quickly and easily. These two helped me to use up some more fabric.
The first is a sort of brown marl. (That is a very straight coat hanger so it looks a little wavy!)

This one is a navy knit fabric with a bit of a pile so it looks almost like velvet.
Both very comfy and cosy. :o)

Postie delivered my three quilts back from Great Northern Quilt Show,Harrogate complete with their rosettes and awards. I knew that two of them had rosettes, but didn't know until I opened the parcel that the third one had a Judge's Merit rosette too! What a pleasant surprise!
There were also some Lilian Hedley books and a cash award too! It is raining today so maybe I can  curl up and get some reading done this afternoon.

 
This is the third quilt which I entered ,at Harrogate, into the theme competition "Illusions". A difficult one to photograph with that black background. The colours are more true in the picture above this.

 

The rosettes just squeezed onto my board.
 Think they are all going to have to cuddle in closer now.

The silverware I am afraid sort of disappears into a drawer.

Rosettes at Great Northern Quilt Show Harrogate.

     

 

Last Thursday evening I got a lovely phonecall to say that "Just Doodling" had won the wholecloth award at the Great Northern Quilt Show. I had great plans to go over there on Sunday but unfortunately life got in the way and I missed it so I never got to see the show or my quilts.





                           This is a photo I took when it was just finished and some pictures of the quilt in progress.

                         

 

 

 

I was thrilled with the news but imagine my delight when I saw photos of "Just Doodling" and "Northern Spring" on Fiona's blog and saw the caption saying that it had got a rosette too-----looks as if maybe two of them! I was having a coffee whilst I was scrolling through and nearly swamped the keyboard with the surprise. :o)

 

 

 

A good surprise though-a really good start to the day. :o)

Just found out---

I got a ribbon at the Great Northern Quilt Show at Harrogate last weekend with my wholecloth quilt!

I had forgotten to ask anyone to take a picture of it hanging at the show so the first I knew about the ribbon was as I unpacked it when it returned this morning!

Made my day :o)

I should have taken a picture of this hanging before sending it off to Grosvenor Shows for the Great Northern Quilt Show this weekend. This was it blocked out on the carpet a few weeks ago.

Would love a picture of it hanging if anyone spots it at Harrogate?

Great Northern Quilt Show in Harrogate.

I wasn't able to get over to Harrogate this year but Jenny and Peter kindly took pictures for me. No prizes but delighted to receive Judge's Merit rosettes for Crazy Paisley and Ring-a-Roses. I saw pictures of many of the other quilts and really wish I had been able to go as they looked stunning!

Fabrications magazine.

Whenever you have a quilt shown in Fabrications magazine they are really kind and send you a copy. The current issue has two of my quilts shown in the Sandown/Hoffman Challenge article. Neither of them will bring home any prizes or rosettes but it is rather nice to see them in print :o)



The picture below is of the full page advert for this years Great Northern Quilt Show in Harrogate. Last year my Coneflowers quilt was the overall champion winner which of course was a wonderful feeling! What didn't sink in at the time was how many times I would see that quilt in print and on flyers for this year's show. I daren't even begin to think how many pictures of it there are or even how far they have travelled!

Goodbye 2007 and Hello 2008!

2007 was a packed year one way and another :o)

The family has a new member with the arrival of a grandson in March.
DH is relieved that the family name lives on. :o)



Quilt wise it was a good year culminating in that day in Harrogate, when I kept pinching myself to check if I was dreaming. Of course I now see it as a challenge to try harder in 2008!

My sewing room is tidy, my noticeboard ,diary and sketchbook are laid out ready to start again tomorrow. Apart from the competitions to enter 2008/9 promises a couple of new challenges that I am looking forward too. I will of course blog them as the year goes on.

Resolutions?
The usual-----lose some weight/walk more/get the garden tidy and use up fabric quicker than I buy it!

A big thank you to anyone who reads my blog. I find it absolutely fascinating to look at the map and see that people scattered around the world find my scribblings of any interest at all.

I love it when I see that a comment has come in. Thank you, I really appreciate them.

I hope that 2008 will be a happy, healthy, peaceful year for you and yours wherever you are.

Fashion,Embroidery and Stitch show at Harrogate

On Saturday I was back though to Harrogate with friends to the Fashion, Embroidery and Stitch Show. It takes about two and a quarter hours to travel over ,so we had quite an early start to our day.

Travelling so early at this time of the year, is magical. All the hollows and lower valleys have light mists in them and the fells just seem to float over them. Travelling home is even more magical as the fells are misty blue almost as if they were painted on stacked sheets of glass .

I took a shopping list with me this time as I usually bring back stuff bought on impulse and then curse that I have forgotten to get something that I did need. My first purchase was these two adapters for my Bernina 200e. The one on the right will allow the machine to use low shank feet or attachments like the ruffler etc.

The one on the left is never advertised in UK but allows the Artistas, Auroras etc to use some clip on feet. In the main I prefer to use a Bernina foot but there are some specialist clip on feet that this will be very useful for.


Next on my list was this little tin of soluble wax pastels. I am intrigued at wax being water soluble?





After that some Angelina and some scarves . I have forgotten to take a picture of them but they are soft blues and greens. These are for an ocean project which is still at the "think about" stage.





Lastly a small Paisley pattern wood stamp block which I think might just work in with the pinky purple quilt I am working on at the moment. I wasn't looking for this----------it found me! :o)
(I am getting quite carried away with the current project and keep doing more and more to it.)

The show itself was very enjoyable!
The Textile Treasures of the WI was awe inspiring and it was fascinating watching how styles changed over the decades.

The rest of the time there was spent just looking at the various exhibits and students work and generally picking up creative vibes from everything.

A very enjoyable day!

Sunday

These are the awards and prizes (a Husqvarna Emerald sewing machine and 15 half metres of lovely Hoffman fabrics!)that I brought home.



This was the very first quilt show I have ever been to and I drifted around open mouthed at the display of quilts I saw. There were so many different styles, techniques and colours. I was totally gobsmacked by the whole experience! I returned home inspired and with my head buzzing with ideas for future projects.

There were signs saying that photographs could be taken for personal use only so I don't think I can put them on my blog much as I would love to share them!

One of the nice things about going away is the journey home.

The show was in Harrogate and to get home we have to go over the backbone of England (the Pennines) and then down the other side until we see the hills of home appearing. Even on a grey day the colours are lovely. At the end of a sunny clear day the setting sun shows the hills off in a spectacular way.

This road often gets blocked in bad winter weather so it has snow poles on the sides of the road to show where the road is and how deep the snow drifts are.
If the weather gets really bad there are gates that get shut and no traffic is allowed at all.
I was once on a bus going over this road when the weather closed in and the bus followed a snow plough through. The snow was halfway up the bus windows and we ended up being stuck for about eight hours.
Great adventures :o)

I really did hear correctly!

This weekend was the Great Northern Quilt Show in Harrogate which was on for three days starting on Friday. On Thursday I had a phonecall and even though I wrote down what was said I didn't take it in until we went to the show on Sunday. It felt as if I sent emails about it or told anyone that it would prick the bubble---- but it really was all real!!!!

The theme competition for the show was "Butterflies and Blooms" and I entered this quilt with coneflowers and butterflies seen in the garden.

It won the competition!

As if that wasn't enough it won the Machine Quilting award too and the Overall Champion award and prize.

On top of that my entry into the Hoffman Challenge won Second Prize.

I am still pinching myself!
