Cosy, happy ,scrappy quilt!!!

I remembered these star blocks that were waiting to be made into something. The addition of some more Japanese material for the alternate blocks means that the girls can have one each, earlier than I thought!
Same east/west theme for this one, but a different look completely!

On Friday night we had stormy weather with a lot of thunder. On Saturday morning we couldn't connect to the internet as apparently our modem had been zapped by the storm! This meant that I seemed to have loads of time to do other stuff instead of sitting procrastinating in front of a computer screen.

Whilst turning out my sewing room I came across some fabric sent by the other grandmother of my two youngest grand daughters. They are half Japanese so I hit on the idea of a quilt sort of incorporating an East/West idea both in fabrics and pattern and this is the result so far. It is still in need of borders, batting and quilting etc but so far I am quite pleased :o)

A Rosette!

This morning the postie brought home the fairy quilt I made for the Hoffman Challenge 2006 competition complete with a 3rd prize rosette to add to my collection. It is the red and white one on the right.(A picture of the quilt is way back in the July entries on my blog)
So far I have had a 2cnd ,3rd, and runner up prize in the Hoffman. I would so love to make up a complete set!!!! :o) Next year's fabric has been chosen so I am beginning to sketch ideas.

It is a well named competition as quite often the fabric chosen to be featured in the quilt is a very dominant design. Finding fabrics to balance with it and then using the fabric in different ways is half the fun. Posted by Picasa

Colder weather.

It is ages since I put anything on my blog! The main reason is that I have had one of the viruses that appear at this time of year so have done very little for several weeks.
Once I was clear of it I couldn't get into creative mode so ended up pulling everything out of my sewing room, giving it a coat of paint to freshen it up and then tried to only put back stuff that I know I will use. I did manage to send loads of fabric to the local school but an awful lot has found its way back into my "fabric mine" under the big table!!! Will have another blitz on it soon I am sure.
In the process of sorting stuff out I found the ideal piece of waterproof fabric to make a coat for Rosie. I swore when I got a Yorkie that she wouldn't be wearing "clothes" and ribbons. I didn't realise then that they have no undercoat so do get really wet in a downpour. At least she looks rufty tufty in this----------and it has got me sewing again! Posted by Picasa
