I meant to include these pictures last week although the fish are still there today.
The highest number we have seen over the week, in this part of our river, is twelve or thirteen. They are salmon and a few sea trout spawning on a new gravel bed, created by last year's floods. The salmon were very big------the largest looked to be about a metre in
length.
We are lucky to be able to see these just minutes from our house! We were actually looking for the kingfisher ,when we spotted them. This is one of his favourite haunts.
Look how clear the water is again now the river is calm again.
It must be a few metres deep at this point and you can still see the individual pebbles.

I feel lucky to have the kingfisher, but salmon? You are in an entirely different league. How fabulous.
It is a fabulous river and we spend ages looking into it and along its banks. :o)
In the same place at other times we have watched otter and red squirrels.It is just a couple of hundred yards from our supermarket too.
