Occasionally we go through to Workington to do our supermarket shopping. The journey home makes it worth while!

Wasp's Nest.

On first sight we thought that this was a deflated football discarded in the hedge beside the river. Then we took a closer look and saw the entry hole and the wasps flying in and out.
The nest seemed to appear almost overnight--or we have been very inobservant as we have walked past. The colour has darkened over two days .

No sign of any rain today

First clouds we have seen for days-----no rain clouds for us! Posted by Picasa

Long hot summer!

A lot of plants are wilting with the lack of rain this summer. Some things are still thriving though. The crabapple boughs are bending under the weight of fruit. Posted by Picasa

Fairy Quilt

This is how the fairy quilt developed. It is made up of various parts whereas the Pied Piper quilt is technically a wholecloth I suppose as nothing has been applied to it -------yet!

Pied Piper.

This is the beginning of another small quilt showing the Pied Piper. I started with cutout paper shapes against a background and have now transferred the picture to silk and painted it.
I hope to get this done this week!
The weather in UK is very hot at the moment so it is a good reason to work/play indoors. Posted by Picasa

Little fairy quilt.

This is a small 15"quilt that I have just finished. This picture was taken before I got the binding on. It is all hand painted and then quilted over and beaded. Posted by Picasa

Dragonfly.

In this hot weather it is always a good idea to have your camera with you! You never know what will land on your leg in the lane beside the river.
There are usually two or three dragonflies on patrol of their territories when it is hot and sunny.

At last I have found a use for them!

I had a huge bag of polar fleece scraps that were too small to make even a small pair of mittens but I couldn't bring myself to throw them out.

It took just one evening to serge them together and back with some needlecord.

They now make a bright, cosy rug for the sofa and have also made a little space in my sewing room. Posted by Picasa

Cherries.

This year our cherry tree has had a decent crop for the first time. The birds haven't stripped the fruit before we could pick any either. Posted by Picasa

Quilts at Sandown

These are the two quilts that I had at Sandown at the weekend. They were entered into the Hoffman Challenge and the new Crazy Quilt categories. Neither of them have achieved any position in the judging.

I am just pleased they got finished as we were having major building work going on all the time I was sewing them :o)

Fingers crossed now for my FOQ entries. "Hope springs eternal-----etc!Posted by Picasa

Plumbago

This the Plumbago plant my friend, Lynne, gave me when it outgrew her conservatory. The flowers are an incredible ice blue . These are the first flowers it has had this year. Posted by Picasa

Belle etoile.

Philadelphus shrubs are known for their sweet scent. The Belle Etoile version must have the most powerful scent of all. In the early evening or just after rain it is really heavy---------almost too much!!!
This one is really heavy with flowers this year! Posted by Picasa
