Hot!

A hot day at last and a quick picture as we passed Skiddaw and Bassenthwaite. The water was very blue and there was a bit of a heat haze.
Today we had a phonecall from DD2 who urgently needed something from home. She lives in the NE and us in the Lake District so the choice was sending by post or jumping into the car.
Plans for gardening went out of the window!
We arranged to meet up at Rheged in Penrith. It is ideal as it is so easily accessible and has stuff to see and shops to visit if you arrive early for the meeting. It is quite a novel concept and got round so many planning problems found in the National Park by going sort of underground. The whole thing is covered with grass and you can't see anything really before you get to the front door.

Inside it is very light and airy even though the only proper windows are these ones looking out over the lily pond. It was a bit early for them yesterday.
You can just see here where the centre just continues the gentle contours of the surrounding fields. Hard to imagine that the A66 is just behind that tree.

Read more about what is inside and the calendar of upcoming events here.http://www.rheged.com/

Interesting! Haven't heard of Rheged - probably because we don't go up that far on our days out to the Lakes. Thanks for the tip.
Enjoy summer while it's here!

Penrith is a lovely area to explore especially when the central Lakes area is thronged.
